BAND BIO
The Monumental Divide plays songs of alienation and resistance. Its raw material is the despair and loneliness of modern living, but the music never wallows in that misery. A yearning melody is cut by a sudden burst of rage. Raw power gives way to a sweet line. The instruments give and take and give and take then all crescendo to pure electricity. This music is dramatic and honest and full of blood and guts. They have been influenced by bands like Mogwai, Bedhead, Built to Spill and Shellac among many others.
Formed in March 2001, the band has been writing songs and performing in the Los Angeles area. They are currently working on their debut album release (Feb 2003). The Monumental Divide will embark on the album’s supporting tour in late February with confirmed tour dates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Phoenix. Past shows include The California Institute of Abnormal Arts, Friar Tuck’s, Second Avenue Ale House, Sacred Grounds, and the Roadhouse.
The Monumental Divide has an explosive live show with all the members playing tight and fast and full of energy. Steven’s drums and Mike’s bass make you feel the rhythm in your bones. Tony’s guitar screeches and sings. This power trio will not disappoint.
